» Girl band raises awareness over hair loss

Alopecia is a hair loss disease that affects and distresses many people. One girl band, which found fame through the popular entertainment show, X Factor, is now working to raise awareness about this disease.

Alopecia is a disease that affects many people and results in massive hair loss, which can be extremely stressful for the sufferer. According to one recent report a girl band that became recognised as a result of appearances on the popular entertainment talent show, X Factor, is raising awareness of this disease.

The four piece girl band, Bad Lashes is doing the promotion for the charity BeBold, which is a hair loss charity. One of the members underwent a lot of prosthetic work in order for the shoot, and was particularly keen to promote the problem as her mother suffers from the disease.

Twenty two year old Sam Bennett said: “It was so strange to see myself in the mirror after the prosthetic had been fitted. Hair is so tied up with identity for women so it came as a shock to see myself like that and made me realise what my mum has been going through.”

She added: “All of the girls in the band know each other’s family so it’s a charity we all feel strongly about. My mum wears a wig, but some women don’t and they get stared at in the street. I hope the campaign helps break down the stigma of alopecia.” An official from the charity said he was pleased to have the girl band on board backing the charity. He said: “It’s great to have a band like Bad Lashes supporting the cause. They have all said that alopecia doesn’t get the attention it deserves and they are happy to support what we do.”
